Broxtowe Borough Council’s planning application 23/00447, proposing the construction of 29 apartments at Beeston Marina, is now subject to an appeal following its initial rejection.
The proposal, submitted by Beeston Marina Ltd, aims to transform the current static mobile home site into a modern waterfront residential complex.
The development has faced significant criticism from the Beeston Civic Society, which has labeled the plans as ‘shocking’ and misaligned with local planning policies. This is a view shared by dozens of Rylands residents who protested at the Planning Committee supported by their local Councillors, hundreds of petitioners, and Broxtowe councillors on the planning committee, which unanimously voted to refuse it.
Tamar Feast, a trustee of the Society, stated, “We think it fails on every level of planning policy. We believe aspects of biodiversity and the local wildlife have been overlooked. It is out of scale and I think it will have a significant negative impact for the local residents. These homes aren’t affordable.”
The Civic Society emphasises the importance of community input in the planning process and encourages residents to voice their concerns. They provide guidance on submitting effective objections, highlighting the need for personalised and policy-referenced feedback.
