Asking residents and visitors to vote for their favourite street in Stamford was how one local Civic Society engaged the public in Civic Day on 14th June.
Stamford Civic Society spoke to over 300 people, including a surprising number of visitors, which resulted in the High Street winning the battle for votes as it was often the only one they knew about.
Despite this, the event allowed civic society members, supported by Cllr Jane Kingham, to engage lots of people in discussions about the town, give out copies of the popular town trail leaflet to children, and encourage residents to join the society. Rutland Sound also came along and interviewed the society chair.
‘What a fun way to spend a sunny Saturday morning in Stamford’, commented Society Chair, Ursula Jones. ‘Our grateful thanks to Stamford Library for their support and help, as well as our Deputy Mayor, and everyone who participated in our Civvic Day celebrations.’
