Heritage is for everyone, says The Heritage Alliance, of which Civic Voice is a member. The sector offers genuine social mobility through accessible career routes that don’t require traditional academic qualifications, it employs people in all parts of the UK, and provides vital opportunities in rural and left-behind areas. Heritage buildings also serve as essential community hubs.
From early years to higher education, heritage enriches learning and creates jobs that boost regional growth.
- 69% of people visited a heritage site in 2023/24, showing heritage’s enduring appeal
- 39% of schools have cut back on heritage trips since the pandemic, hitting deprived areas hardest
The Heritage Alliance advocates for apprenticeships to work better for our sector’s unique structure of small organisations and specialist skills.
We also want to see school trips to heritage sites compulsory to help inspire our next generation into heritage careers.
