The approval of Civic Voice’s new Articles of Association at the recent EGM marks an important moment for the organisation. Alongside the new Articles, we have also agreed a clear mission and set of values to guide Civic Voice and the wider Civic Movement into the future.
Our mission is:
To lead a national movement championing great places where communities are empowered to shape, protect and improve where they live and create beautiful, sustainable places where people can flourish.
Or, in its shorter form:
Championing great places shaped by strong community voices.
This captures what Civic Voice is fundamentally about. We are a national movement rooted in local communities, bringing together civic societies and amenity groups whose members care passionately about the places where they live.
Our agreed values are:
- Independence
- Inclusivity and representation
- Transparency and accountability
- Local stewardship
- Community empowerment
- Constructive collaboration
- Public engagement and volunteerism
These values are intended to be practical principles, shaping both how Civic Voice operates nationally and how we work with and support the wider Civic Movement.
They recognise the importance of independent local voices, while also acknowledging the greater influence we can achieve when those voices come together. They reinforce our commitment to constructive engagement, openness, public participation and ensuring that communities have a meaningful opportunity to shape decisions about their places.
Together, the new Articles, charitable objects, mission and values provide Civic Voice with a stronger and clearer foundation for the future. They describe an organisation that will continue to protect what communities value, while also engaging positively with the challenges and opportunities involved in creating the great places of tomorrow.
This is therefore more than a change to our governing documents. It is an opportunity to renew our sense of purpose, strengthen the Civic Movement and make an increasingly confident case for the importance of community voices in shaping the places where we all live.
Our ambition is simple: champion great places, strengthen community voices and build a Civic Movement ready for the future.
