Reforms to the statutory consultee system – Civic Voice response

Civic Voice has submitted a response to the latest consultation from MHCLG.

You read our full response here. Our Expert Panel prepared this response and expressed concern at the abolition of Sports England as a statutory consultee and the failure to recognise the work of voluntary groups.

Civic Voice says proposed reforms to the statutory consultee system could lead to the loss of playing fields to development. Civic Voice argues that downgrading Sport England’s role would weaken protections for playing fields and sports facilities, making them more vulnerable to housing development. The loss of these spaces would have a particularly detrimental impact on young people, especially those whose parents lack the time or financial resources to travel further afield for sport and recreation.
