Civic Voice is inviting communities across England to “Fix One Thing” for Civic Day on Saturday 20 June 2026.
The idea is simple: identify one small, practical improvement that will make your place look better, feel better, or work better. It does not need to be expensive, complicated or part of a major campaign. It just needs to be achievable, visible and rooted in civic pride.
That might mean tidying a neglected corner, repainting a bench, restoring a noticeboard, planting flowers, removing visual clutter, cleaning a stretch of street, celebrating a local building, or recording a heritage feature that deserves more attention.
The aim is to show the power of local action. One small improvement in one place may feel modest. But across the country, dozens of small actions will add up to a powerful national story about civic pride, volunteering and the role of communities in caring for the places they love.
Civic Voice is asking local civic societies, community groups and volunteers to:
- choose one achievable project;
- tell Civic Voice what you are planning by emailing info@civicvoice.org.uk;
- take before and after photographs;
- share your progress on social media using #FixOneThing;
- use Civic Day, Saturday 20 June 2026, to celebrate the result.
Projects should ideally be achievable in a few hours, need little or no funding, involve volunteers and create a visible improvement that can be photographed and shared.
Robert Osborne, Chair of Civic Voice, said the campaign is about encouraging communities to get practical things done and inspire others by showing what is possible.
Civic Day is a chance to show that civic societies and local volunteers are practical champions of better places, not just commentators on planning proposals.
So, what is the one thing you could fix in your community?
Email info@civicvoice.org.uk and tell us what you are planning.
Use #FixOneThing and help us build a national picture of local action.
