CALENDAR

Welcome to our calendar of forthcoming events. We use EventBrite  to manage bookings and Zoom links.

We welcome helpful feedback, but event timings cannot suit everyone. We try to do a mix of daytime, lunchtime and evening events to cater for different work and family situations, and we're experimenting with what works. Some events may run more than once.

This year's Civic Voice Conference will take place in Liverpool aboard the Daffodil, a former Mersey ferry permanently moored in Canning Dock, and will cover a variety of topics under the broad theme of Regeneration. Confirmed speakers include Professor Sally Stone from Manchester School of Architecture talking on Adaptive Reuse and the Future of the Already Built and Dr Paul Jones of the University of Salford talking on The Role of Historic Assets in Successful Urban Regeneration, plus  Danny Marsh from Planit  speaking on The Regeneration of Liverpool’s Historic Central Docks  and  Steve Power of Merseyside Buildings Preservation Trust on the Lower Duke Street Townscape Heritage Initiative

A lunch of traditional Scouse (or vegetarian ‘blind’ Scouse) will be served and is included in the ticket price.

For early arrivals, Merseyside Civic Society will lead a free walking tour of historic buildings that have been saved by hospitality companies at 15:30 on Thursday 16 April and host an optional group meal that evening at the Royal Albert Dock.

Online events - members only

A members meeting took place on Saturday 24 January at 2pm at The Gallery, 70 Cowcross Street, London EC1M 6EJ.  The meeting received an update on the strategic review of Civic Voice, noted the appointment of three new trustees and confirmed that we are now operating as a volunteer run body pending the outcome of the review.

A further meeting to update members on progress wil be announced shortly.

Membership Mondays

These have been postponed so our limited resources can be devoted to the strategic review and one or two key activities. We hope to resume these webinars later in the year. The idea is that these webinars will be:-

  • practical (taking things away to try out)
  • positive (about what we can do rather than what we can't, supporting others not criticising)
  • focused on learning (from other societies and guests, and sharing expertise)
  • focused on growth (rebuilding the civic movement and developing greater diversity and inclusion)
  • sociable (healthy civic society is all about relationships, so these sessions will provide opportunities to meet new people, share experiences and support each other)

Sessions are likely to include short presentations on practical topics with opportunity for questions and small group discussion.

If you have an idea for a slot, please let us know!
